The New VLC 2.0 for Android...
After a long time, VLC is back with it's latest version for Android, VLC media player 2.0. After their last major update (v1.7.0) about 6 months ago. They have resurfaced with a lot of major updates to battle out for victory in the BATTLE for the Best Media Player for Android.
With a major facelift that adds numerous features, like the complete support for Android N (Neyyappam, Nutella, Nougat, or whatever is coming.....). They trimmed away unnecessary permissions for a smoother working on Android. Another major update that has been Long Awaited is the inclusion of video playlists. Finding subtitles has been built in into the software, and last but not least the easy merging between Android TV and other Android packages.
With faster decoding Technology, using the new Asynchronous Hardware Decoder. They have also updated all their codecs and format supports.
Permissions and Android N:
They have substantially decreased the number of permissions that was required for it's working. The only permission required now is access to media files, which is the most needed for any media player.
Atop everything they also support Android N run time permissions and also support Android 2.2.
Network Browsing:
VLC now supports DLNA/UPnP, Windows Shares, FTP(S), SFTP, NFS protocols to discover and browse your local Home servers or NAS.
Subtitle Download:
Downloading subtitles has now become a Hassle Free experience due to the integrated downloader in the APP. It downloads the best suited subtitle from OpenSubtitles.
Playlists:
Along with their Music playlist, they have now added Video playlists, making movie marathons more fun and easy.
RTL and CTL text Support:
They have worked through a lot for the Right to Left and Complex Text Layout for subtitles..
Android TV:
The Android TV UI has been Face-lifted and is now merged with the same package as normal Android one. And So.. If you prefer the TV form factor, you could always change it in the preferences.
