Drone Racing, The Future of Fast Sports

You must have either heard or have seen or rarely been a part of 'Drone Racing' by now. Drone Racing is a fast growing sports.Owing to is great speed and great maneuver skills, multi rotors have gained popularity among the crowd.Drone racing has gained immense support that recent information suggests the event to be made as a part of official sports.

Flight has always been a keen part of human excitement. Innovations RC toys became so popular that Brushless DC motors gained acceptance irrespective of their high current requirement. Quadcopters soon entered the market, which had more flight stability than the helicopters or planes. Eventually multirotors came into existence and very high level of mutation began to occur in the arena. Multiple sellers and manufacturers came up sighing the future of the field( hobbyking still leading the rest).

Today people take drone flying seriously. People do consider drone flying as their full time job, understanding the scope in the field. Various youtube channels have emerged teaching people on how to build and fly one with perfection. International drone racing leagues offer huge sum as prize money inviting more members into the hobby.

Currently ESPN has come forward to support this fast sports.They have set up a large field of led lighings and checkpoints for drones. Considered as the largest drone racing event, it has the largest prize money(psst. without considering unofficial racing events). ESPN telecasts the racing event live and has already received lot of positive feedback from whole world.People likes to buckle up and watch the 100kmph flying objects whizzing past their screens.


India has not yet been able to support drone racing as an innovative event. It does have some hobby stores across the country ,but enthusiasts are less, compelling them to deliver less choice to existing few. Some IITs have come up with the Indian drone racing events delivering oasis to extremists.


Coming to the hardware section, a well off racing drone can set you off at around 20k or 300 - 400 dollars. While cheaper versions can cost at least 10k or 200 dollars for the complete set. Anyone with an interest can build a racing drone himself with the basic components that include 4 sets of brushless dc motors, compatible escs, flight controller, bec( if required), 6+ channel transmitter reciever kit, lipo battery that can handle current requirement of escs' , and led strips if required. FPV equipment is optional, but any drone racing competition would compel you as the hurdles can be that tricky. FPV equipment pricing is in a wide range.a complete telemetry set can set you back as cheap as 3000 rupees, or can go as high as 30k or 35k depending on the receiver used.
