Lenovo ZUK Z1: Pro camera smartphone
The Lenovo has released its new sub brand with the tag ZUK. It has been some time since we have seen some exciting change from regular releases. Similarly did the Xolo once came up with 'BLACK' series. Well lenovo has a pretty good smartphone on the field today. The ZUK Z1 seems to have caught the eyes of people. Well it does have pretty good advertisement with its flash sale and have gained pretty good customers. Is it worth the hype or not??
The Lenovo ZUK Z1 has its own trends and shows for market. The look and feel of ZUK Z1 does not have any prior relation to former lenovo devices. Designwise the device does not impress much brains. Z1 resembles cheap phones in straight look. The have adopted a much old version of form. But the story is different when we come to sides. The device has aircraft aluminium running all way of sides cut with premium CNC cuts.
Well the running through the sides we find the 3.5mm microphone jack on top, power button and volume rockers on the right , microphone, speakers, C-type usb port on the bottom. As in modern designs, left is left as a plane canvas. The C-type port has wide talks - some people prefer old universal usb because of its global nature. But some prefer for reversible C-type as most suport fast charging and fast data transfer with top performance.
On the front we get a 5.5 inch Full HD display with a 401 ppi pixel density. Well the display is pretty good. I personally recommend a 350+ ppi at least for a 5.5 inch device. This device has extra bezel running down after actual display. It does make the device look a bit crappy. Lenovo has a lot to learn in the case of designing devices to please customers.
Lets come down to performance... The ZUK Z1 runs on Snapdragon 801 chip fuelled with 3GB RAM and Adreno 330 GPU. Ill explain how 801 is famous - 801 was the processor used in the famous Mi3 and many other flagships more than an year ago. Lenovo has decided to cling on the technology that is more than one year old. The processor is powerful but is 32bit technology. It does not perform much as the prevailing Snapdragon 650 or about 2 year old Mediatek mt6595.
The RAM on the device is worth a note.It does the job well. We could not find any studders while handling the device.Multitasking is a sweet happiness in it.Well we can find 3GB RAM phones at a cheaper price point than this but hey..
I am not going into detail on the Adreno 330 GPU.It is not a great GPU today. you can play enough games on it but you'll still find lags on heavy games. In the future it will ask you for an upgrade if you are a gamer.
The Storage on the device is a pretty good 64 gigs of memory.Well that stands out of the pack. But they have avoided the external storage option. Lets rely on the otg for that.
The total performance is a let down because antutu benchmark scores are around 45k while similarly priced Xiaomi Note 3 has a score of 80k. That can really affect the performance.
Coming to a huge difference to what i spoke before, The camera is a showstopper. The 13MP dual LED camera comes with the Sony IMX sensor and OIS(optical image stabilization) that captures perfect images. I did really like the pics that ZUK snapped. Even in low light I could find the phone to capture impressive images.Ill be uploading some pics on my instagram channel.
The battery is pretty strong one. The 4100 mAh battery did last very long than i expected. One can use the smartphone continuously for two days and there will still be some charge left. This device is a thumbs up for heavy travellers.
The Fingerprint sensor reminds us of the Iphone and Galaxy S6. located on the home button, it has pretty good features and good hardware. It barely managed to miss one from the 100 tries i had on unlocking it.
Well all these comes under a package priced at 13499 at amazon and available in flash sale now. Soon the open sale will begin for unhappy customers who didnt get the device. ;)
