Lenovo Y50-70 (2015)

Lenovo Y50-70 is the budget gaming laptop that easily fits into the sub-90k category, while providing a massive eye popping specifications. The laptop currently has the top position in its category while laptops like Asus Rog series, dell or hp doesn't meet up with the performance of the Y50. Amazing performer Y50 is set at a very cheap rate and has attracted a lot of customers in a short period of time. The Lenovo Y50-70 is considered as the descendant of the Y510P ,but is better in every way heating issue, graphics, and even built quality.

Build and Design

Altogether the Lenovo Y50-70 looks and feels better. Though it has a plastic body, its cuts and graphics on the top gives it a sleek look attracting eyes. The body material is such that it can attract fingerprints like the Lenovo Y510P.

Inside the Y50 we get a textured rubber over the keyboard. It gives the  the laptop a premium looks with the stickers on it.The Lenovo Y50 weighs 5.29 pounds and is only 0.94 inch thick.

The processor exhaust like cutting at the rear is not functional but delivers the 'macho' look to the device. The keyboard is an excellent Accutype keyboard with red LED backlight. There are Three modes for the brightness of these LEDs. Trackpad is good and has multitouch facility but the click and tracking are not upto the mark.

The body is made of plastic and aluminium which together makes the device pretty solid and can be placed anywhere with ease.Below the device you can find grills for extra cooling as well as a subwoofer! The Y50 has its own improvements like the subwoofer to provide pleasing sound experience while gaming..

Display

The Lenovo Y50 supports a 15.5 inch display 1920 x 1080p display resolution while the Y70 supports a 17.5 inch one.The display is one of the worst ever seen for such a great device.Viewing angles are the worst  and color looks dull.

Gaming devices are to be made of great display but frankly i don't know what happened to lenovo here. But the multitouch functionality comes to the rescue. The device has an above average touch sensitivity and can be a great help while using windows 8.

Performance

The performance in unmatched for the price tag.Let me first get into the benchmark scores
  • Cinebench Graphics: 96.65 fps, CPU: 488 points
  • PCMark 8: 2,602 points
  • Bioshock Infinite (1080p, Ultra): 42
The laptop had performed as expected from the specifications. It was the NVIDIA GeForce GTX860M That rendered these results. It can handle high graphics games like Witcher 3, Need For Speed Rivals etc. at high settings.

The shortcoming of the laptop is its CPU as the graphics card had the potential for more juice but the CPU has its own restrictions. It is not powerful enough because of the score in Cinebench test.

Power and Extras

The Laptop seems to lack the power to juice up the device for more than 3 hours. The lack of battery backup can be attributed to the high performance and graphics stuff, but there are other devices in the market that can power the same configuration for longer duration. The company claims a battery backup of about 5 hrs. But it lasted about 2 to 4 hours on an average usage.
The laptop comes with a lot of bundled softwares like amazon kindle, evernote, McAfee antivirus etc.
The blaring JBL speakers can add effect to the gaming device.
