"Moth Eyes" to power future technology

Graphene solar panel

Researchers have found more uses for Graphene - the revolutionary invention that led to Nobel prize for physics. Graphene is simply the 2D planar lattice of carbon. Researchers have found an extraordinary use for this material - As a potential replacement for solar cells.

Graphene currently has a lot of application like electronic devices, transparent display, highly efficient components ,supercharge battery etc.

Graphene as developed earlier absorbs only 2.3% light energy. A new technology has enhanced this to be 90% absorption. This technology will deliver electricity from waste light energy, and power a lot of applications. The latest technology uses nanotexturing which involves growing graphene around textured metallic surface.

This technology is is an example for bio-mimicking, where the texture from Moths' eyes are used for the construction, thus is called 'Moth eyes'.

By this innovation , devices can be charged from very dim light making it a very good alternative to traditional solar panels.Scientists are looking forward to find more applications for Graphene in the long run...
